FIRE calculator and Coast FIRE calculator

Find the age your investments could pay for your life, the FIRE number, and when you could stop saving altogether and let growth carry you to a normal retirement: Coast FIRE. See it with a steady return, a range, or every real market since 1926.

How it works

Enter your savings, what you add each month, your expected return and the yearly spending you'd need. At a 4% withdrawal rate your FIRE number is 25 times that spending; at 3.5%, about 29 times. The calculator shows when you'd get there, and how much sooner saving a little more gets you there.

Questions

What is my FIRE number?

Your yearly spending divided by your withdrawal rate. $50,000 a year at 4% is $1.25 million.

What is Coast FIRE?

The point where what you've already saved would grow to your full retirement target by a normal retirement age without another contribution. After it, you only need to earn enough to cover today's spending.

Is 4% safe for early retirement?

It was built for 30-year retirements. For 40 to 50 years, many plan on 3.25% to 3.5%. The Drawdown Simulator tests your exact plan.
